Questions in Life

As I turned 21 this year and think of my life so far and what’s to come, I realize how many “aha” moments I’ve had from someone asking me simple yet powerful questions like –

What are we here for?

Where have we come from?

Where are we going after this?

How long are we to continue doing this?

Yeah! I mean someone asks me a seemingly trivial question and bam! I’ve NO answers or I don’t know how to answer. But, what I believe is the beauty of these questions is that there are no right or wrong answers. They are just meant to get your wheels turning, and maybe help you see the decisions you’ve been making, and the ones you’d like to make from now on. For instance, the most frequent question I’ve always in my mind – Should you be focused on today or tomorrow? “

This might seem to be all silly type of questions but once we don’t go by their literal meaning, we can say that they are the baby levels of the spiritual quest. It may be true that if we can answer these simple yet important questions, we can probably find the actual meaning of life. But yes! to prove this big claim, we need to take the first jump of this search, that is to ask ourselves – “Why are we here?”

What I’ve realized that the kind of questions we ask determine the kind of life we lead. For example, questions like Why am I so unlucky?” or “Why am I always in such a situation?” are so backward looking that the answers you get with them are naturally disempowering. On the other side, questions like “What am I grateful for?”, “What can I learn from this experience?” or “How can I do it differently?” are so empowering that they provoke you and get you thinking and putting you on the path to a better life.

At last but not least, life isn’t always about figuring out what to do.  The real challenge is simply doing the things we know we should be doing because we might have been here hundreds or thousands of times before, doing the same thing time & again but “Why do it once again?” is THE most crucial question of all the time!

Ask yourself some of these questions when you feel stuck or when you want to think of yourself. What comes up just might surprise you! 🙂
